PhD R&D (M/W) – Video Game Development – DRW2

We currently look for a candidate (M/W) graduated from a PhD in IT / Computer Graphics to work on the development of an open-world MMO game.


Our client is based in Paris and is the editor of a totally new MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) concept, whose goal is to build « interactive and socially connected game expériences ».

Hence the game takes place in a future where people travel to other worlds, connect the universe to new entirely societies, and it gives the gamers the opportunity to live an second (and better) life.

The social interactions and social media will be deeply integrated into the game and will allow the users to create a new world.

The startup was created in 2018 and gathers up to now about 40 high experienced videogame developpers coming from the best developing studios (such as Ubisoft, Rockstar, CD Projekt Red) and who are located across Europe.


Thanks to a M€3 fund raising this summer, the company is still growing up, and aims at reinforcing its Tech & Tool Progamming team..

As a Tools and Tech programmer, you will work with Unreal Engine to help bring our game to life. You will support gameplay programmers by extending features and improving performance. You will empower designers and artists by creating tools and by supporting them in their creative process.


Main responsibilities :

  • As part of the programming team, maintain and improve the version of Unreal Engine
  • Support artists and designers by helping them find the appropriate workflow to achieve their goal
  • Design and implement specific tools or engine features to support the needs of the game
  • Ensure the performance and scalability of the game in the very unpredictable context of a MMO game
  • Maintain and update the various third party dependencies the game depends on
  • Participate in design and feedback gathering sessions to make sure that the player’s experience always comes first


For so, we’re looking for a candidate with the following experience /competencies :


  • Tech and Tools programming experience
  • Very strong C++ skills with excellent software architecture and low level knowledge
  • Knowledge of C#, Python, Windows and Linux programming
  • Concern and sensibility for performance, memory usage and network bandwidth
  • Appetite for learning and staying ahead of the curve by keeping in touch with cutting edge techniques
  • Strong communication skills in english, comfortable working with non-technical people and remote teams
  • Passion for making games, self-motivation, driven to creatively solve problems, interest and willingness to participate in all the aspects of game development


Also nice to have :


  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4
  • Experience building tools with graphical user interfaces
  • Experience with client/server architecture and multiplayer games
  • Cross-platform experience: PC, Linux, Consoles…
  • Personal interest in MMO games and virtual worlds



Location : Paris – remote possible depending on the profile and the experience of the candidate
